What is your Side Hustle or (Brand)?
Social Media Samurai - Social Media Management and Consultation
How did you begin your Side Hustle?
I had been blogging since the like 1999. From Blackplanet to Myspace and then blogspot. I was a consist blogger but had no interest in doing so professionally. Like many at the time the internet was new and basically a social tool. In 2012 a blogger Classy Sharelle hit me up with an opportunity to join Social Fabric and blogger network with major brand ties. They needed more men and she thought I would be a good fit. That was where my first steady digital money came from. It led to me doing reviews, covering live events, community management and more. Social Media Samurai was the natural evolution of what I was doing.
WOULD YOU INDEED CONSIDER THIS AS A SIDE HUSTLE?
OR WOULD YOU CLASSIFY IT AS A Passion project OR Dream Career?
Do you consider yourself an influencer? If yes, why?
Other: I know I have given advice and stated things that have influenced people but I don’t know if it's on the scale to so boldly wear that title.
The most surprising thing I've learned about being a professional in this field is:
How many people won't pay for these services and still think it's just playing around on the computer.
How did you even get started in this industry or line of work?
This all goes back to my childhood interest in computers and electronics. Truthfully this is just the video gamer player in me growing up/ Back in grade school I was brought in to test the Prodigy online system which was one of the early precursors to the modern social media platforms, so as a kid I had a glimpse of what the future could be. I just followed through with that interest.
My colleagues and counterparts would be surprised or perhaps flabbergasted if they knew that I:
Just how many of their favorite online personalities I'm connected to. Many folks don't know me but their top 5's do.
10 Years ago I was:
Ending my hip hop promotion hustle which really sparked the independent side of my business drive.
I legit swore at the age of 10 that I was going to grow up to be:
A video game designer. I still have sketches for video game concepts that went on to become realities.
What inspires you?
My Son.....my Family.....My people.
How do you inspire people?
I don't know. I can only hope my approach to humanity sparks something in someone to treat folks better.
To calm me down when I'm pissed off I listen to
Classic Alicia Keys
